Is Fish Sauce actually a Fish..?

We recieved this email today regarding fish sauce (nam pla) that is in CurrySimple's Pad Thai Sauce.

Customer Question:

"When reading your ingredients for the pad thai sauce I noticed that one of the ingredients is fish sauce. Is this actually fish in the fish sauce? What type of fish? I know that oyster sauce is not actually made from oysters so I hope this not too ignorant a question. If it is indeed actual fish..... is there any way to get it without fish in it?"

Fish sauce is fermented fish and essential for Thai cooking. If you have ever eaten at a Thai restaurant I am positive you have consumed it before. It is not like eating actual fish. It is like a salty soy sauce. There is no way to take it out of the Pad Thai sauce and honestly don’t think you would want it without it. You really don’t even know it is there.
